I love mangoes

Before we traveled to Taiwan, I already had developed a taste for mangos, but since our trip, I love them more. While in Taiwan, I bet we ate at least one Mango per day. Sometimes more. I love them peeled and sliced, I love them with the peel and sliced. I love them in things, I love them all by themselves. They served them as drinks, they served them sliced and one very nice lady at a restaurant gave me three when I complimented her on the very good food. They were sitting by the cash register in a basket. That made me happy. But since I have come home, I have found, being a connoisseur of great mangos now, that I am really picky. I haven't found one, from the grocery store, that tastes like the ones we ate in Taiwan.
Last night at Leo's I ordered a mango shake. I was all prepared for the powerful taste of mango, but alas, it was mostly ice cream. What a disappointment. I guess I will have to try to make my own.
It's terrible when you have tasted the best and then cannot get it. . .
::sigh::

Mangoes I think are an acquired taste. They are hard to find here so I haven't ever tried them. Since I'm told they are expensive when they do appear here, I'm sure I'd love them. My now ex-husbnd always joked that I have a champagne appetite and a beer budget.

You were starting to remind me of the Dr. Seuss "Green Eggs and Ham" book there for a minute.

I don't think I've ever had a mango. Can you believe it?

RG, you are too funny. It DOES sound like Dr. Seuss. I love them here and there, I love them everywhere!
I DO love mangos in my drink, I love them when I have to think. . .

my husband says that mangoes (and all other fruit actually) are much better in mexico too. I make him choose our produce because of his experience and he does VERY well. someday you should visit Delicius, Chiuhauah,Mexico.(i'm not sure i spelled either of those right) :)

At least a mango a day? you see if it was me, I'd be having at least 3! One for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

I wonder what the mangoes in Taiwan taste like? Can you describe it?

take the grocery store variety, then make them much softer. As they get softer, then multiply the sweetness by about 10. I can sort of get the flavor from a grocerystore variety by adding a bunch of splenda. But really, they say when you have tasted a banana from the tree, you can never really like the grocery store banana. That is the same with mangos. So you spend the remainder of your days hunting for the perfect mango. . . sigh

thanks for the description - I appreciate that - it's the next best thing to having it myself.

Mango freak,
Probably never again but I might try to go to Mexico and taste the mangoes there. My son came home from a mission from Taiwan, we accompanied him home. We got to tour, and every day, whenever I saw mangoes, I had to buy them. I will try to post some pictures of the mangoes and mango groves onto this post.
