The latest baby was blessed this Saturday. Because my SIL3's brother won the National Guard Soldier of the Year award which took him out on Sunday to Washington DC for further competition, he couldn't be here, so they moved it to Saturday.
I have been working on this little dress for a while, and it is finally done. I did the hand smocking, I hand gathered the dress, then did the embroidery. The pin tucks alone took 1 1/2 hours to sew. I think I went through three bobbins!
I felt so lucky one day at the thrift shop to find all that lace. There are miles and miles of the two kinds of lace each on a roll, and each roll only cost me $2.00. They worked perfectly for weaving the ribbon and for the edge of the dress, collar and sleeves. The tiny buttons are the same ones I used when I made the shoes for the baby shower. She looked just darling in it.
There were 18 people there and we had a delicious pot luck dinner of tacos and all the trimmings. It was so fun to see everyone who could come.
Sailor has taken to using a different camera to take pictures, so I don't actually have pictures of the baby in the dress. I will try to post them as soon as he gets a chance to download them.
Mean while, the dress pictures will have to do.

What a precious, heirloom, quality dress. I absolutely love the smocking. Great job!
Wow, now that's skill! I would love to tinker with a sewing machine we have, it's quite old with weird plastic gears that you have to put in to change the stitching. Of course the manual is long gone. But you know, it probably is built like a tank too! Great job!
