On Running

Last Saturday, Caren, my daughter-in-law ran a 10K. I was so proud of her, because she got into shape in a matter of a few months. It has to be since Christmas, since her treadmill was broken then, and they used their Christmas money from us to fix it.
She has been training, and she said she accomplished the 9 minute mile. That is amazing to me, since I do about the 14 minute mile. I walk, okay?
I used to run to the Sutherland bridge and back, which was about 5 miles total. I got so I could do this in under an hour. I was in good shape, but not a marathon runner by any means.
Last night, The Nurse and I were chatting online and she mentioned she is trying to get into shape. We both commiserated over our lack of motivation to get started, and the excuses we both come up with, in order to put off beginning our exercise routines.
When you get started, it requires you keep on going, or that day was sort of wasted.
I read once that 3500 calories = 1 lb. To lose one pound, you have to eat 3500 less calories or use that up in exercise.
So today, I got onto the old treadmill. I ran for 70 minutes, 800 calories and 5 miles. Very slow, I know, but it is a start.
Keep checking on me.

I think you are amazing Friend. Consistency and persistence! Two very hard words. We are often in a rut, but it sounds like you are getting in the groove. Inspiring.
